VOLUNTEERS from St Davids RNLI were paged at 2:17pm on Wednesday( Aug 31) after a series of 999 calls concerned for the welfare of three stand-up paddle boarders blown out to sea off Caerfai Bay.
Calls were made to HM Coastguard by both onlookers and the casualties themselves.
The charity’s All Weather Tamar class Lifeboat, Norah Wortley, launched shortly after and made best speed to the location.
The casualties were swiftly located using binoculars and were already three quarters of a mile offshore.
The casualties remained together on their SUP boards, and upon our arrival appeared fit and well. They also each had their own mobile devices protected in waterproof cases which enabled them to make the vital call for help.
Once safely aboard the lifeboat, the casualties were returned to their launch point at Caerfai beach using our daughter boat. They were greeted by HM Coastguard – St Davids who provided assistance once ashore.
The RNLI said: “If you’re heading to sea, check the forecast weather conditions and always carry a means of calling for help.”

WORK has started at Tudor Place, Tiers Cross to create 11 quality, sustainable and affordable Council homes.
The Tudor Place development is the second Pembrokeshire County Council housing site in the Authority’s ambitious housing development programme.
Work at the site is due for completion in July 2023.
The 11 homes will be constructed to replace ten prefabricated houses.
The development will provide modern sustainable homes for future generations, designed to the highest standards to be highly energy efficient and built to have a positive impact on the environment.
To celebrate work starting at the site, a Meet and Greet event was held on Friday, August 19 between the contractor, staff, Cabinet Member for Planning & Housing Delivery, local Community Council, local County Councillor and the returning tenants.
Pembrokeshire County Council Cabinet Member for Planning & Housing Delivery, Cllr Jon Harvey, said: “It is so good to see this development moving forward and it was wonderful to meet some of the tenants who will be returning to homes at Tudor Place.
“The development will provide good quality desirable homes which residents can take pride in and aid health and well-being.
“The development of new social and affordable homes is a key priority nationally for the Welsh Government and locally for us in Pembrokeshire and this development is one of a number of new housing schemes that the Council will be delivering.”
Returning tenants Zoe and Chris McLuckie said: “We are delighted that work has started. We have an amazing future ahead of us here and are looking forward to returning to our family home in Tiers Cross.”
Claire George, Chairman of Tiers Cross Community Council, added: “It’s great to see TyCroes Group Ltd commence work on the development at Tudor Place.
“As a Community, we look forward to welcoming residents back to the village in the near future.”

A VIDEO of Megafobia in Oakwood has been shared over social media after a visitor captured a video of the ride “shaking”.
Megafobia has been a part of Oakwood for over 20 years. However, members of the public are calling for the ride to be shut down due to fears of the ride being unsafe.
As many people have explained on social media, roller coasters – especially wooden ones – are meant to sway.
If tracks and structures on roller coasters are too rigid, they are prone to breaking due to the weight of the passing train.
Swaying and shaking tracks reduce the maximum force applied. Roller coasters are designed to sway, especially in tight corners and high g-force locations.
A spokesperson for Oakwood Theme Park has said: “Megafobia is a wooden roller coaster, which by design allows lateral movement of the track and structure to flex as the train passes over the track.
“The ride is inspected on a daily basis, and is certified for operation under the ADIPS scheme. The ride has always flexed in this manner, and the footage is representative of how the ride operates and in accordance with the design.
“The safety and wellbeing of all our visitors and staff is of paramount importance, and we appreciate those that have contacted us to seek clarification.”
